Prescribe Outside: Thanks for joining us this summer!
Check out our summer recap video, and thanks again for joining us in the great outdoors!
This summer, Harbin Clinic wrote a prescription to spend more time outdoors. Why? On average, Americans spend 90% of their time indoors despite the great side effects of being outside. Side effects include:
- Sunshine produces Vitamin D
- Increased creativity and curiosity in children
- Improvement in focus and concentration
- Less risk of stress, anxiety and depression
- Decreased blood pressure and risk of heart disease
We partnered with the Coosa River Basin Initiative (CRBI) on river activities and cleanups. As a result, these activities play an important role in keeping our rivers clean. We also sponsored CRBI’s launch of their Swim Guide, which provided river water quality testing results to the public weekly.
Local 5ks and a Lucky 7s Trail Run hosted by TRED offered families a chance to get active at places like Jackson Hill in Rome and Lakepoint Sports in Emerson.
From cardio-drumming and family boot camps to yoga at the Labyrinth, we were thrilled to host some stellar pop-up exercise classes with the YMCA of Rome and Floyd County.
But even if you couldn’t join us at one of our scheduled events, we hope you had a chance to participate in the Prescribe Outside Summer Scavenger Hunt! The scavenger hunt featured eight destinations throughout Northwest Georgia. This family-friendly activity was the perfect way to explore a few treasured locations in our region. Participants also had a chance to enter our raffle for a YETI cooler and Harbin Prize Pack.
We selected a winner at random and are thrilled to announce Ashley Wilson as our winner! Congratulations!
