These Boots are Made for Hikin’: Harbin & TRED Partnership
As the originator of Georgia’s first Rails-to-Trails initiative in 1976, Rome has long taken pride in its extensive trail network. One Rome organization leading the charge for more accessible trails is TRED. Trails for Recreation and Economic Development, known as TRED, is a Rome trail advocacy organization that was established in Rome in 2012. Their goal is to improve quality of life and growth of local communities through a network of multipurpose trails.
Harbin Clinic knew immediately that TRED’s mission and active community involvement would lead to an excellent partnership during their Prescribe Outside campaign. Prescribe Outside’s objective is to raise awareness among patients and their families about the advantages of outdoor recreation by offering fun, stimulating activities.
Prescribe Outside Summer Scavenger Hunt
Part of the Prescribe Outside campaign features a family-friendly, summer scavenger hunt that encourages everyone to visit 8 destinations around northwest Georgia. Harbin Clinic’s Prescribe Outside Scavenger Hunt Map identifies two TRED locations: the mural at the Sara Hightower Regional Library and the labyrinth at Jackson Hill. These locations are close to the downtown Rome area and are easily accessible by families of all ages. Many of the destinations on the Scavenger Hunt incorporate easy and relaxing walking trails. Walking has been shown to provide numerous benefits to overall health. Walking lowers the risk of stroke and type 2 diabetes, enhances motor development, and lowers levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.
Lucky Sevens Trail Race
If you seek a more strenuous activity outdoors, the Lucky Sevens Trail Race is on July 7, 2022. This 7k trail run and 2-mile trail walk is sponsored by TRED, Harbin Clinic, and other local businesses. It features single-track trails on Jackson and Blossom Hills, post-race beverages, birthday cupcakes, and music. Come out and enjoy some fun at the Rome Civic Center!
Prescribe Outside encourages families and individuals to spend more time in the outdoors by promoting local events and activities. Learn more and view family-friendly summer activities in your area by visiting here.
