2022: A Year In Review

From Child Abuse Prevention Month pinwheel gardens to a physician performing the first robot-assisted cardiothoracic surgery at a regional hospital, 2022 proved to be a joyous and memorable year. As we pause and reflect, here are a few of our favorite memories from 2022!

In January, we officially unveiled the Harbin Clinic CARE Mural at the Rome-Floyd YMCA—the completed mural is a dynamic, meaningful and inclusive representation of our community. The artists leveraged artwork of children who frequent the space and incorporated their unique perspectives into the final design. The finished mural celebrates health, wellness and the diverse community of Northwest Georgia.

In February, our Pediatrics Cartersville office partnered with Charlie’s Army Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides resources and safe sleep practices to new parents and caregivers. As part of the partnership, we donated HALO Sleep Sacks to new parents with children 0-4 months of age.

In April, our pediatric offices planted “Pinwheels for Prevention” gardens outside their offices for Child Abuse Prevention Month, representing the positive changes we can make in the lives of children. Our offices also held a diaper drive to collect essential family items for our friends at Advocates for Children, Exchange Club Family Resource Center, and Polk Family Connection.

In May, we launched our Prescribe Outside campaign, which encouraged the community to spend more time outdoors and experience the positive side effects, including increased curiosity, decreased blood pressure and more! We partnered with local organizations and hosted engaging family-friendly events such as 5ks, outdoor exercise classes and a scavenger hunt.

Orthopedic surgeons Dr. Christopher Piller and Dr. Brandon Bushnell and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Charles Edward McBride spoke at the Corky Kell Classic about injury prevention and how Harbin Clinic Orthopedics works with sports teams throughout the region to stay healthy all season long.

In August, we participated in the free community health fair presented by the 100 Black Men of Rome – Northwest Georgia, Inc. Our team members shared educational materials on preventative health information and free kits for colorectal screenings in addition to providing financial support for the fair.

Eleven Harbin Clinic practices and 39 Harbin Clinic providers received Best of Rome & Polk 2022 awards!

We welcomed three new physicians to Harbin Clinic this year! These physicians joined practices in Floyd County. Dr. Ayush Singh joined Harbin Clinic Neurology, Dr. Britton Carter joined the Harbin Clinic Eye Center, and Dr. Robert Williams joined Harbin Clinic Urology.

For the third year in a row, Get Pump’d for Kids raised funds for local foster care systems that focus on providing essential resources to families and children. Proceeds were distributed to Advocates for Children, Gordon County Advocacy Center, Polk County Family Connection and Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth.

For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Harbin Clinic employees participated in a “Pink Out” event where all proceeds were donated to Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition to provide free mammograms for women in Bartow County. Also, three Harbin Clinic employees were brave enough to share their journeys with breast cancer—Kim Raulerson, Kristi Broom, and Linda Timms.

We honored our longest-serving full-time employees with a Service Award Ceremony in November. The 77 employees recognized have worked a combined 1,385 years with Harbin Clinic!

Harbin Clinic raised over $5,000 this holiday season for four local organizations to provide meals to families in need throughout Northwest Georgia. The donations went to BLESS Coalition, Cedartown United Fund, Northwest Georgia Hunger Ministries and the Voluntary Action Center of Gordon County.

From all of us at Harbin Clinic, thank you for making this year a great one! We wish everyone a healthy and happy New Year, and we can’t wait to care completely for you in 2023!
