Vein Conditions at Harbin Clinic

At Harbin Clinic Vein Center, we treat a wide array of arterial and venous problems. Most vein treatments can be performed under local anesthetic, which allows almost immediate return to normal activities.

Spider Veins

Dilated capillaries on the skin, resembling spider legs. These are common among children and pregnant women, though they can happen to just about anyone. Daily prolonged sitting or standing can lead to an increased risk for spider vein development over time. Often times, they are caused by an underlying venous reflux.

Varicose Veins

Enlarged, swollen, and twisting veins, often appearing blue or dark purple. They happen when faulty valves in the veins allow blood to flow in the wrong direction or to pool. They are typically caused by chronic venous insufficiency, with an increased risk in those who are obese, get little exercise, have leg trauma or a family history of the condition, or women who are pregnant.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

A blood clot in a deep vein, usually in the legs. It is known to sometimes lead to pulmonary embolism. Symptoms may include pain, swelling, redness or warmth in the lower legs.

Some factors that put you at a greater risk of DVT include: recent surgery, smoking, pregnancy and/or decreased blood flow rate from lack of movement

Restless Leg Syndrome

Causes unpleasant or uncomfortable sensations in the legs and an irresistible urge to move them. Symptoms commonly occur in the late afternoon or evening hours, and are often most severe at night when a person is resting, such as sitting or lying in bed.

Risk factors include: low iron levels, kidney failure, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis or pregnancy.

Lymphedema

Blockage of the lymph vessels, which aid in draining fluid from tissues. Lymph vessels are found in your legs, and all around your body, and allow your immune cells to move where they need to go. It is commonly a complication of cancer treatment or parasitic infections, but it can also be caused by genetic factors. Treatments are available to alleviate symptoms.

Phlebitis

Inflammation of a vein, causing skin redness, pain or burning along the vein, or the vein feeling hard to the touch. Phlebitis is commonly caused by local trauma to the impacted vein.
