A referral to a nephrologist is recommended if a patient’s GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate – lab test used to measure the level of kidney function and determine the stage of kidney disease) is steadily declining.   For appointments, we recommend referrals are made by your primary care physician or specialist along with past medical records.
