The small intestine is the specialized tubular structure between the stomach and the large intestine (also called the colon) that absorbs the nutrition from your food. It is approximately 20-25 feet in length and is about as big around as your middle finger. The small intestine is responsible for absorption of nutrients, salt, and water.
Here are a few of the small intestine conditions and diseases we treat:
CELIAC DISEASE
Celiac disease is a sensitivity to gluten (a component of wheat), indicated by symptoms of weight loss, gastric distention or diabetes.
INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE
Inflammatory bowel disease is a group of disorders where the intestines become inflamed.
LACTOSE INTOLERANCE
Lactose intolerance is a disorder where the body lacks the proper enzymes to break down lactose, a special type of sugar that is found in dairy products. This disorder can exhibit symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating and gas.
