At the time of your initial consultation, we will make a decision about your surgery. Due to concerns regarding patient safety and appropriateness, some patients are not good candidates for weight reduction surgery.
If you are deemed an appropriate candidate, once we have received all of the supporting documentation required by your insurance company, we will submit it to them for authorization for surgery. It is important that you understand, even if we consider you a good candidate for surgery, your insurance carrier may have limitations or additional documentation requirements.
Once we have received approval from them, your bariatric coordinator will contact you to schedule your surgery date. You will be required to start a very low-calorie diet two weeks prior to surgery. This will be discussed at your pre-operative visit.
Surgery Orientation
Once your pre-operative workup has been completed and you are approved for surgery, you will come back to the office for another visit with the physician assistant. A representative of Floyd Medical Center will also contact you to schedule an appointment to go to Floyd Medical Center to complete your anesthesia evaluation and receive further education regarding your perioperative nursing care. You will be oriented to the hospital and have any last-minute logistical questions answered.
The goal for these appointments is to decrease stress and make your hospital visit go as smoothly as possible.
