How can I request access to a child’s medical information?

Click on “Your Menu” and choose “Request Family Access.” Please be advised children over the age of 13 will not be able to be accessed by parents or legal guardians due to HIPAA guidelines.

If you are a child’s parent or legal guardian, you can view their medical information and manage their care in MyAtriumHealth through proxy access. Proxies of children between the ages of 0-12 have a full view of the child’s information, while proxies of children between the ages of 13-17 have teen access, which is a limited view of the child’s information by default. Like other health systems across the country, we follow state and federal regulations that limit online access to patient records for individuals aged 13-17.

A full view of the child’s information is granted to proxies when a patient 13-17 years old is of diminished capacity – meaning the patient is not mentally capable of making informed medical decisions on their own. Diminished proxy access requires a doctor’s order. As always, a parent or guardian may call the doctor’s office to discuss their children’s health concerns.

How can I have proxy access to my child’s account or an adult’s account?

Due to certain medical needs, there are instances when a parent or guardian may request full access to the child’s health record that will remain active after the child turns 18 or when an adult needs or would like to grant access of their patient portal account.

Patients age 18 and older may grant access to anyone whom they would like to share their health record. Click on “Your Menu” and choose “Request Family Access.” To grant MyAtriumHealh access to your caregiver or spouse, you can send an invitation for them to request access.

What type of appointments can I book online?

With MyAtriumHealth, you can generally schedule, reschedule and cancel appointments for most health services – allowing you to make appointments when, how and where you want.

The types of appointments you can book depend on your age, health concerns and how long you’ve been seeing your doctor.

If you can’t schedule an appointment online, it’s best to call your provider’s office directly to schedule your appointment.

Is my information secure on MyAtriumHealth?

Yes, we take great care to make sure your health information is private and secure. MyAtriumHealth follows HIPAA laws and uses encryption technology on your records.

Here are more tips to make sure your information is safe:

  • Choose a password that is easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess.
  • Two-step (or multi-factor) authentication is automatically turned on for everyone to help keep your account secure.
What is two-step authentication?

Two-step verification is an additional layer of security designed to protect the information in your patient portal account. In addition to signing in to your patient portal account with your username and password, two-step verification prompts you to enter a one-time use security code that helps us verify your identity.

Once you successfully enter your code, we can verify your identity and sign you in. If you choose to skip this step next time, frequent users will only need to do two-step verification periodically.

Two-step verification is turned on by default for all patient portal users to ensure your health information is private and secure.

When will I see my lab or test results in MyAtriumHealth?

Some results are ready on the same day; other results may take a few days. When the result is available, we release it to you online immediately. Sometimes, this means that you may see your results BEFORE your provider has seen them. Please understand that we look at every test result.

At Atrium Health, we believe sharing real-time information empowers you to take control of your health on your time. Some patients choose to look at this information right away while others choose to wait until their care team contacts them. Health information can be confusing. If you have a hard time understanding your results or you see something in a note that concerns you, please write down your questions and ask your provider when you see them or send a message to your doctor in MyAtriumHealth.
