Walk With A Doc 2020

Harbin Clinic Kicks Off Walk With a Doc for 2020
Lace up your sneakers and get ready to join a community of health-happy, fitness-friendly walkers for the 5th year of Harbin Clinic’s Walk With a Doc series. Held on the third Saturday of each month, the program is getting a change of scenery this year, moving the 9 AM gathering point to the lower parking lot at the Rome/Floyd Library. The program is free and open to the public and is modeled after a national initiative designed to promote the importance of exercise for overall health and well-being. This is the 5th year that Harbin Clinic has sponsored the event in Rome, with an average of 300 participants each year. This year a charitable component will be added to offer organizations the opportunity to raise funds through encouraging their supporters to join in. “We know how important exercise is for good health,” says Sarah Tuck, Harbin Clinic Senior Director of Marketing, “and we wanted to provide an added incentive while supporting the good work being done by various local charities.” The first walk of the season will take place on April 18th and will be led by Harbin Clinic Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Dr. Mary Margaret Beauchamp. “Walk With a Doc is a great chance for people to get outdoors and move,” says Dr. Beauchamp. “We can all exercise together, talk about various health interests and support our favorite local charities all at once.” Walking is an excellent low impact form of movement that can help you keep your health on track. According to the American Heart Association, walking at a lively pace at least 150 minutes a week can help you: • Think better, feel better and sleep better.• Reduce your risk of serious diseases like heart disease, stroke, diabetes and several types of cancer.• Improve your blood pressure, blood sugar and blood cholesterol levels.• Increase your energy and stamina.• Improve your mental and emotional well-being and reduce risk of depression.• Improve memory and reduce your risk of dementia.• Boost bone strength and reduce your risk of osteoporosis.• Prevent weight gain. The Harbin Clinic Walk With a Doc program is a great opportunity to walk with fellow health enthusiasts with similar goals and engage with a physician to talk about current health topics. Be sure to mark your calendar for the third Saturday of each month beginning in April and ending in October. If the weather is a concern, please check Harbin Clinic’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages for updates about the events.
