Kim Millsap Spinning Into New Dance Moves For A Great Cause
Recognized as one of the best midwives in the region, Kim Millsap, CNM, WHNP, has been cheering on women for years. But with a recent flip of roles in preparation for the 2020 Cartersville Dances with the Stars event on March 7th, Millsap’s dance moves are being trained and encouraged by one of her patients.
Adding a spin to this year’s event, contestants participate as teams in the race to raise as much money as possible for two incredible organizations, the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter and Backpack Buddies program. Alongside her husband, Matt Williams, the duo will host multiple fundraising events and dance their hearts out as “The Willsaps”. For Kim, her dancing coach also happens to be a patient and dear friend.
“This has been a wonderful event that we have supported and attended for years,” says Millsap. “We are excited to get on our feet and bring awareness and financial support to causes that are so dear to us. And how fun that one of my patients is teaching us how to dance!”
The Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter provides emergency shelter as well as physical, emotional and spiritual support for homeless men, women and families in our community. In 2019 they helped more than 600 people find jobs and secure new places to call home. Each day, roughly 70 people are being sheltered through their programs, including nearly 40 children under the age of 18.
The Cartersville and Bartow County school systems’ homeless education program, Backpack Buddies, will also benefit from this annual fundraiser. Backpack Buddies sends backpacks of “kid-friendly” food home with children each weekend who are at high risk to go hungry, otherwise. Through this event, the school homeless liaisons are able to provide school supplies and clothing for homeless children as well as tutoring and counseling services.
“Once you begin to understand and see the kind of life changing impact your donations can bring about in peoples’ lives, you can’t help but want to give all you can,” explains Millsap. “I’m grateful for Harbin Clinic’s support and sponsorship with this event.”
Kim Millsap joined Harbin Clinic in 2008 and has been caring for the OB/GYN needs of women through many stages of their lives. Beyond just pregnancy and childbirth, midwives provide compassionate care and state-of-the-art services in primary care, gynecological and family planning, and prenatal and postpartum care.
You can cast your vote for Kim here or by texting “THEWILLSAPS” to 41444 to make a donation. All proceeds go to the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter and the Backpack Buddies program in Bartow County and are 100 percent tax deductible.
The event will be held Saturday, March 7th, 7-10 p.m. at the Clarence Brown Conference Center, and tickets for the event can be purchased here.
