Dr. Poonam Singh Honored with Georgia Community Teaching Award

Harbin Clinic Internal Medicine physician Dr. Poonam Singh was recently honored with the American College of Physicians (ACP) Georgia Chapter’s 2024 community-based teaching award. The ACP recognizes medical physicians who have volunteered their time to prepare and educate medical students and residents. Individuals selected for this award serve as role models for excellence in patient care and professionalism.

Nominated for this award by her students, residents and peers, Dr. Singh has profoundly impacted those around her through her dedication to patient care and her commitment to excellence in the medical field. Dr. Singh has devoted countless hours to teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals, preparing them for vital roles in direct patient care.

Describing her teaching work, Dr. Singh said, “I am honored to serve my community, and my commitment to teaching and mentoring is a core part of my professional life. It allows me to share my passion for medicine and patient care with the next generation of medical professionals.”

Dr. Singh is a highly respected internal medicine physician based in Rome, Georgia, with over 20 years of experience. She earned her medical degree from Patna Medical College in India and completed her residency at McLaren Regional Medical Center through Michigan State University. Since 2005, Dr. Singh has been a dedicated practitioner at Harbin Clinic and serves as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Medical College of Georgia. Board-certified in both internal medicine and obesity medicine, she has made significant contributions to diabetes and stroke care. Dr. Singh is also deeply committed to education. Beyond actively teaching medical students and residents, she also volunteers her time with organizations like National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Alzheimer’s Association.

The ACP, founded in 1915, is a diverse community of internal medicine specialists and subspecialists from across the globe. It currently consists of over 161,000 members in several different countries, making it the largest medical-specialty society in the world. Members of the ACP lead the medical profession in educating future physicians and enhancing the quality of care for patients.
