Dr. Melissa Dillmon Appointed to the Board of the American Society of Clinical Oncology

Harbin Clinic is thrilled to announce that Dr. Melissa Dillmon has been appointed to the board of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
As the world’s largest oncology society, ASCO is renowned for its educational impact globally. Dr. Dillmon’s appointment to this prestigious board underscores her influence in the field, especially in government relations and legislative advocacy.
Her journey to medicine had a unique beginning, foreshadowing her passion for her new appointment. Dr. Dillmon was originally a political science major at Converse College and was accidentally assigned to an oncology practice for a winter term course. During class, while watching a mentor transform a patient’s perspective on a diagnosis from despair to hope, she was inspired to pursue a career in cancer care.
After medical school at Wake Forest and her residency and fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, she joined Harbin Clinic. Since then, she has consistently demonstrated her devotion to and expertise in medical oncology. Beyond her daily practice and patient care, she was first involved with the Georgia chapter of ASCO, eventually becoming the chair of the executive board where she still serves.
In April 2020, ASCO highlighted Dr. Dillmon as a featured speaker at their web conference for cancer care during COVID-19. In her involvement with GASCO and ASCO, she has offered her time in many volunteer roles, and she has held numerous leadership positions.
Recently, the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (CORE) recognized her as a one of “Today’s Innovators,” an honorary title given to individuals continuing to enhance cancer research and care for all Georgians. Her work promoting pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) legislation, co-pay accumulators and tobacco tax initiatives highlights her dedication to ensuring access to cancer care and research funding.
Expressing her vision and commitment to her appointment, Dr. Dillmon said, “As a community oncologist, I hope to bring the perspective of physicians and caregivers practicing in a non-academic setting while delivering the highest level of care.”
