SPOOK-tacular Halloween Safety Tips

Like many things this year, traditional Halloween festivities may look a little different this weekend. But that doesn’t mean that your family can’t have a fun and magical Halloween celebration!

Following the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in-person trick-or-treating can be high-risk for spreading viruses. We’ve provided some safe tips and exciting alternatives to make sure your Halloween is FaBOOlous.

Safety Tips for the Trick-or-Treaters

  • Stay home if you’re sick.
  • Wear a mask that covers BOTH your nose and mouth.*
  • Wash and sanitize your hands regularly.
  • Trick-or-treat with people in your household.
  • Stay outdoors and remain 6ft apart from people not in your household.
  • Do not hand out candy if you are sick.
  • Consider individually wrapped candy bags.
  • Set up a disinfected distribution table to hand out candy to eliminate direct contact.
  • Talk to your kiddos about safety and social distancing expectations.

Create new Halloween traditions this year with some MONSTER-ously fun alternative activities!

  • Host a virtual Halloween costume contest with friends.
  • Have a Halloween movie night with people you live with.
  • Have a scavenger hunt-style trick-or-treat search in or around your home rather than going house to house.
  • Carve or decorate pumpkins and other Halloween treats.

Whether you’re planning a celebratory night at home or going trick-or-treating, we hope you and your loved ones have a safe and fun Halloween.

If you may have COVID-19 or you may have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, you should not participate in in-person Halloween activities and should not hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.

*Do not wear a costume mask over a protective cloth mask because it can be dangerous if the costume mask makes it hard to breathe. Instead, consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask.
