Pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout the year, Harbin Clinic pediatricians work with families to cultivate stronger and happier bonds between children and parents/caregivers. But this month, we are focused on promoting awareness of the connection between a happy childhood and a hopeful future for every child.

Brighter, Safer Future

The Centers for Disease Control reports that in the US, at least 1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse or neglect this past year. The CDC also considers this number a low estimation because of many cases that go unreported. In 2020 alone, 1,750 children died of abuse and neglect in the United States.

Each year, Harbin Clinic is honored to work alongside local resource centers that provide essential means and education to family units throughout Northwest Georgia. To help raise awareness, Harbin Clinic Pediatrics & Family Medicine locations are planting “Pinwheels for Prevention” gardens outside their offices. These pinwheels represent the opportunity we each have to make positive changes in the lives of at-risk children. By working together and sharing this message, you are helping ensure all children in our communities have a brighter and safer future.

Wellness Champions

At every stage of development, Harbin Clinic pediatricians are prepared to manage the physical, mental and emotional well-being of their patients. When it comes to fostering emotional and cognitive development, our pediatricians are specially trained to provide resources, tips and support to parents.

Do you think of your child’s pediatrician as an active health partner in their overall well-being? Beyond the stomach bug and high fevers, children see their pediatrician for an average of 15 well visits in their first five years. These visits provide an ongoing opportunity for your provider to help you navigate all the questions and health choices you face as a parent or guardian.

“We want to partner with our families,” says Dr. Henaro Sabino with Harbin Clinic Pediatrics Rome Davis Sabino. “And a partnership built on trust allows us to equip parents and caregivers with tools to support their child’s social, emotional and cognitive development.”

Positive Parenting

Our pediatricians also work with families to provide positive parenting tools and techniques. Positive parenting helps build safe, stable and nurturing relationships between parents and children. Physical health is often linked to these early experiences, and the bonds between parent and child can impact how they develop self-esteem and social connections, and how they manage their feelings and behaviors. Diaper Drive

Throughout April, Harbin Clinic locations throughout the region are hosting diaper drives to benefit local non-profits in Northwest Georgia. In addition to diaper donations, baby wipes, baby oil, and rash creams are also welcome. If you would like to donate items, bring them to one of the following Harbin Clinic locations by May 1:

We are grateful to work alongside our local partners who work directly with our community and advocate for children throughout the region.
