Hands-on Care at the Harbin Clinic Hand Center
From the moment we wake up, our hands are constantly in motion. From brushing our teeth and stirring coffee to swinging a tennis racket and tying shoes, our daily routines depend on the healthy movement of hands and wrists. But when an injury suddenly puts life on pause, you can trust the fellowship-trained orthopedic hand surgeons at the Harbin Clinic Hand Center.
The Harbin Clinic Hand Center is committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate care for conditions from shoulder to fingertip. Our team of specialists is uniquely equipped to diagnose and treat a variety of upper extremity conditions and perform both operative and non-operative procedures to help get you back in motion.
“Your ability to interact with your environment as well as the world around you is really driven in large part by your hands and upper extremities,” Hand Center Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jarrad Barber points out. “Developing an injury or a chronic condition calls attention to the critical role our hands play in our everyday lives. I consider it a privilege and very rewarding that I’m able to help someone reclaim their routine.”
Our fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons have taken an additional year of fellowship training to become experts in the evaluation, treatment and surgical or non-surgical care of hand and wrist conditions. They are specifically equipped to solve complex upper extremity illnesses and issues for people of all ages, including pediatric patients.
“Our surgeons and physician assistants are members of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), the premiere organization for professions committed to hand surgery,” explains Hand Center Orthopedic Surgeons Dr. Stephen Klasson. “Hand surgery is both an art and a science, and we incorporate skills from fields of orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, microsurgery and vascular surgery.”
Dr. Klasson also points out that the Harbin Clinic Hand Center is able to perform minor hand surgery procedures on site, providing both a comfortable and cost-effective option.
Treating the hands and wrists is a collaborative effort between our surgeons, physician assistants, hand therapists and nursing staff. Injuries and conditions of the hand are unique and often require therapy early in the treatment process for optimal hand recovery and function. We work closely with Certified Hand Therapists in communities throughout northwest Georgia, and with multiple specialties easily accessible throughout Harbin Clinic, we collaborate to help streamline the complete care of the patient. Conditions of the hand and wrist also benefits from the important partnership between patient and surgeon.
“My role in helping people manage their health is in the diagnosis, in the education process, and in the shared decision-making approach in taking care of their needs,” Dr. Barber explains. “It’s very important to effectively communicate with patients so that they understand what is going on with their body as well as what can be done to improve their health.”
From carpal tunnel and tendonitis to fractures and tumors, the care teams at the Harbin Clinic Hand Center are ready to help patients get back in motion and reclaim their routine. To learn more or schedule an appointment, visit here.
