Zombie-thon 2014: Get ready to RUN for your life!

On Saturday, October 25, downtown Rome will be overrun with zombies for Harbin Clinic’s second annual Zombie-thon 5K & Apocalyptic Block Party! Do you have what it takes to survive?

How it works

This year, participants may choose to run either the zombie-infested 5K or a traditional 5K race or walk (without brain-hungry monsters). Those who opt for the zombie-infested race will wear flag belts to attract hungry zombies along the course who will try to take runners’ flags, or “brains.” Runners who cross the finish line with flags still attached are deemed “survivors,” while those who have their flags snatched along the way join the ranks of the undead. There will be a separate start for runners without flags who are competing just for time. After the race, awards will be presented for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female competitors in 15 age groups, as well as male and female masters and grand masters.

Schedule of events

Festivities kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Bridgepoint Plaza for race day registration, make-up artistry, taking photos with zombies, and costume contests with prizes! The race begins at 5:30 p.m. Immediately following the race is the Apocalyptic Block Party on Broad Street, which will feature two stages with live music from Satin Finish Band and Curiosity Shoppe. The Apocalyptic Block Party is free and open to the public.


Registration for the 5K is $30 per person prior to race day. Registration is $25 per person for the 2 Mile Health Walk, 10 & under 5K, and groups of 10 or more. Race day registration for both the 5K & Health Walk is $35. Register by noon on October 17 for a guaranteed t-shirt. Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to help with the event and must be at least 16 years old. Volunteer to be a zombie or a member of the Harbin Clinic Zombie Outbreak Response Team! Zombie registration is free with the option to purchase a t-shirt for $15. Response team volunteers are needed to help with registration and course assignments. All zombie and response team volunteers must register by 5 p.m. on October 23.

Proceeds from Zombie-thon benefit local parks and recreational programs and services. The 5K and Apocalyptic Block Party is recognized by the Georgia Downtown Association as a Gold Level award-winning event and is coordinated through the partnership efforts of the Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority and the Downtown Development Authority.
