There’s Never Been a Better Time to Consider LASIK

We can almost see the end of 2020 through the fog! And there’s never been a better time to schedule a free vision correction consultation at the Harbin Clinic Eye Center. Our Eye Center consists of leading expert Ophthalmologists and Optometrists who treat eye conditions and diseases with a thorough and integrated approach.

Providing care by both Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, patients can rest assured that they’ll receive comprehensive world-class care throughout every stage of their diagnosis and treatment journey.

Most of us have heard of LASIK vision correction, but there are many other vision correction procedures available that cater to the specific needs of patients. The Harbin Clinic Eye Center is the only facility in northwest Georgia to offer advanced vision correction procedures such as PRK, ICL, and RLE, in addition to LASIK.

“As the technology leader in the area, we are able to provide our patients with options. Our expertise gives patients amazing results; however, it’s our empathetic approach that matters most,” says Ophthalmologist Dr. Paul Harton.

Which Procedure is Right for You

Whether you have nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism, the professionals at the Harbin Clinic Eye Center will walk you through the benefits and risks of every procedure option. “Patients who come here know they have options at a competitive price,” says Dr. Harton.

Knowing that not all patients will be a candidate for every procedure, the Eye Center provides free vision consultations to patients curious about improving their vision.

LASIK, laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, is the most popular form of vision correction. This two-step procedure treats patients who have nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. By reshaping the cornea tissue with a “cool beam” laser, vision is corrected without burning tissue and is completed in about 15 minutes.

PRK, or Photorefractive Keratectomy, is a laser eye surgery that also reshapes the cornea. It’s different from LASIK in the preparation of the cornea. A thin layer of the epithelium is removed to expose the cornea to be reshaped by the laser. Afterward, a contact lens is placed over the eye and acts as a bandage while the epithelial heals. This procedure is a good option for patients with a thinner cornea and who are not strong candidates for LASIK.

Visian Implantable Collamer Lens, or ICL, is an artificial lens your surgeon can implant between your iris and natural lens to improve your vision. This procedure is a great alternative to corneal refractive surgeries like PRK and LASIK and for those who have thin corneas or chronic dry eye. The best candidates for the Visian ICL are between the ages of 21 and 45, with moderate to severe nearsightedness and astigmatism. It is best if the candidate has not had any previous ophthalmic surgery and does not have a history of ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma, iritis, or diabetic retinopathy.

RLE, or refractive lens exchange, is a simple procedure that is ideal of older patients who struggle with their distance vision without glasses. The lens implant surgery removes the patient’s natural damaged lens and exchanges it for an artificial lens known as an IOL, or intraocular lens. “The beauty of RLE is that it is a viable option for vision correction for just about anyone. It takes about 15-20 minutes to make a big improvement in a person’s life,” says Dr. Harton.

Prioritizing your ocular health and scheduling regular eye evaluations can have big impacts on your overall well-being. Harbin Clinic patients also have the added benefits of collaborative care across multiple specialties, and the providers at the Eye Center work closely with physicians from multiple specialties to determine how other conditions may be connected to eye health.
