Allergy testing determines if symptoms are caused by allergies or another problem. Many factors could cause allergy-like symptoms such as an infection. Elimination tests, skin tests and blood tests are other ways to narrow down what could be causing your symptoms and confirm if you have allergies.
ALLERGY TYPES:
One of the most common allergy types is the inhalant allergy, an allergic reaction caused when a person breathes in an allergen such as pollen or animal dander. For these reactions, allergic immunotherapy is a great long-term solution.
Allergic immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots, is small concentrations of the allergens you’re allergic to that are injected in the upper arm. These shots increase the immune system’s tolerance by increasing the allergen doses until the maximum concentration is reached. Once the shots are stopped, many people experience relief from their allergies for several years.
An alternative to allergic immunotherapy is sub-lingual drops, where a tablet containing the allergen is placed under the tongue. The drops have the same result as the shots but are given less frequently and contain a higher dosage of the allergen.
