The 2018 edition of Harbin Clinic’s Walk with a Doc program started off with a bang in April as more than 100 people participated.
Harbin Clinic Vascular Surgeon Dr. Frank Stegall Jr. plans to keep the momentum going as the leader for the May walk.
“I’m excited to be leading the May Walk with a Doc. My family and I enjoy the outdoors and being active, and now I get to share that experience with a bunch of like-minded people,” he says. “Exercise can help play such an important role in everyone’s health, and it’s great to have a big crowd taking part."
The next walk is slated for Saturday, May 19 at 9 a.m. at Bridgepoint Plaza in Downtown Rome. The event will feature Dr. Stegall talking for a few minutes about health and exercise before leading the participants on a roughly two-mile walk along the Kingfisher Trail.
“Sometimes getting out and exercising is a bit tough, but being able to join a bunch of other people and enjoy a walk in part of Rome’s great trail system helps make it more fun,” Dr. Stegall says.
Studies show that walking helps with stress reduction, weight loss and if done on a regular basis can help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke, lower blood pressure and improve overall well-being.
The free walks are scheduled for the third Saturday of each month running through October.
While no special equipment is needed to walk, it’s a good idea to wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing. Be sure to check the forecast before the walks, as weather in May can be a bit tricky. Harbin Clinic’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages will have updates in case of inclement weather.
