Get ready to lace up your walking shoes and have your family prepared to log some steps while exploring a great trail in Downtown Rome for the July edition of Harbin Clinic’s Walk With a Doc.
The July event is set for Saturday, July 15 at 9 a.m. in Downtown Rome. The walk leaves from Bridgepoint Plaza, follows the Kingfisher Trail and is approximately two miles. People of all fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The free series features monthly walks led by Harbin Clinic physicians where participants can exercise, meet community members and also have a chance to talk with a doctor.
Harbin Clinic Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Chris Piller will lead the group. Dr. Piller is a fitness and wellness enthusiast with years of experience in helping athletes of all skill levels recover from injuries and get back in the game.
“Walking is low impact and something that almost everyone can do. It can help increase fitness, which is something we can all use,” Dr. Piller says.
Making time to get regular exercise helps control weight and has other health benefits. People who are physically active live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression and some types of cancer.
Going out for a walk as a family allows everyone from mom, dad and the kids to spend time together and also participate in a healthy lifestyle.
“I’m looking forward to a great walk and getting a chance to exercise and talk with the participants. This is a great, family-friendly event that encourages everyone to get out and get active,” Dr. Piller says.
More than 150 people have participated in the three previous walks.
Weather in July can be unpredictable. Please check Harbin Clinic’s website, Facebook and Twitter for updates about the event in case of inclement weather.
