More than 200 people have taken to the trails in Downtown Rome with Harbin Clinic Physicians over the last four months. Family Medicine Physician Dr. Heather Pryor wants to add to that number, as she takes the lead spot for the August edition of Walk With a Doc.
The event is slated for Saturday, Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. The walk leaves from Bridgepoint Plaza, follows the Kingfisher Trail and is approximately two miles. People of all fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to participate.
The free series features monthly walks led by Harbin Clinic physicians where participants can exercise meet community members and also have a chance to talk with a doctor.
Dr. Pryor enjoys getting outdoors and being active with her family, whether it’s walking, biking, hiking or more. She also encourages her patients to make sure to get enough exercise.
“I tell all my patients that they need to be getting some type of regular exercise every week. Walking is a great choice for many of them, because it’s low impact and doesn’t require any special equipment,” Dr. Pryor says. “Walking also offers a lot of health and wellness benefits.”
People who are physically active typically live longer and have a lower risk for heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, depression and some forms of cancer.
Walking is also an activity the whole family, from kids to adults, can enjoy together.
“I enjoyed attending one of the earlier Walks With a Doc, and I’m excited to be leading this one,” Dr. Pryor says. “I hope everyone will come out and enjoy a great day of fun, walking with me and other members of the community.”
Weather in August can be unpredictable. Please check Harbin Clinic’s web site, Facebook page and Twitter page for updates about the event in case of inclement weather.
