On Thursday evening November 10, everyone is invited to visit the Town Green in Downtown Rome for the Shine a Light On Lung Cancer Event.
The event promotes lung health awareness and lung cancer prevention through smoking cessation, clean air initiatives and lung cancer screenings while also celebrating those who have battled lung cancer.
Lung cancer survivor Angela Robinson will share her inspiring story about how she fought lung cancer and won. Other speakers will include Ann Arnold, from the Downtown Development Authority, and Harbin Clinic pulmonologist Dr. Darshak Pandya.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Town Green in front of the Forum in Downtown Rome. There will be several tables with information about lung cancer, how to care for your lungs and pledge cards for those who are trying to kick their smoking habit. The University of Georgia Extension on Radon, Lung Force and the American Cancer Society are some of the regional and national groups that will join local healthcare sponsors in providing the variety of information and materials.
Several local entertainers will perform. Survivors as well as families who have lost loved ones will have an opportunity to tie white ribbons on the pedestrian bridge. These ribbons will remain on display the following week. The event concludes with a lighting ceremony, honoring and remembering those impacted by lung cancer.
The event is sponsored by Redmond Regional Medical Center, Harbin Clinic, The Rome Health Department and the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition.
