Lights, foam, bubbles and more are part of the course for the sixth edition of the Harbin Clinic Leprechaun-a-thon, and runners and walkers can register now for the event which takes plan on Friday night, March 17.
This year’s race features a flat, fast course and a few special areas where runners can run through bubbles and foam. The finish line has been transformed into a miniature St. Patrick’s Day Festival with a large foam area where runners and walkers can celebrate finishing the event.
“The Leprechaun-a-thon has become a great tradition for Harbin Clinic, and we thought including the lights, foam and bubbles would add more fun elements to this family-friendly event,” Harbin Clinic CEO Kenna Stock says.
The race begins at 7:30 p.m. with the walk beginning five minutes later at 7:35 p.m.
Registration for the event is currently open, and anyone interested in participating in the 5K run or two mile health walk can sign up by going to the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation website at rfpra.com/leprechaun-a-thon.
“This race features something for everyone, whether you’re an avid 5K-runner or just wanting to walk the course and feel healthier. We encourage families and children to come out and walk or run and participate in the costume contest,” Kevin Cowling, director of Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation, says. “We’re thrilled to team up with Harbin Clinic once again to bring this event to our community.”
Pre-registration costs $25 for the 5K and $20 for the walk. Kids ages 12 and younger and groups of 10 or more athletes can register for $20 each by visiting the Rome Floyd Parks and Recreation office at 1 Shorter Avenue.
The 5K race is chip timed with awards going to the top three male and female finishers in each age group, as well as awards going to the overall male and female winner, male and female masters winners and grandmasters winners. The awards ceremony will be held on the Town Green after the race.
Pre-registration ends on March 16. Race-day registration costs $30 for either the 5K or the walk. Race packet pickup will be held on March 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To guarantee a race t-shirt, register online by March 8.
The race begins on East First Avenue behind the SunTrust bank building and ends on the Town Green.
Runners and walkers are encouraged to get into the St. Patrick’s Day festivities by donning their best green attire and accessorizing with jewelry that glows or flashes light.
Judges will be on hand for the pre-race costume contest where they will award prizes to the Glowiest Leprechaun, the Littlest Leprechaun for those ages 12 and under, and the Most Festive Leprechaun.
All runners and walkers will receive a Leprechaun-a-thon armband in their race packets that will include discounts and specials from participating downtown businesses and restaurants.
