Harbin Hero Hustle Set for Saturday, Oct. 14

It’s time to dust off that cape, iron those tights and warm up your super powers, because registration has opened for the 2017 Harbin Hero Hustle 5K race and two-mile health walk.

The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 14 in Downtown Rome, and you can register at rfpra.com. Online registration costs $25 for the 5K and $20 for the walk. Race-day registration costs $30 for the 5K race.

Last year’s event drew more than 450 participants with many of them paying homage to their favorite superheroes and villains.

“I never imagined so many super heroes lived in the friendly confines of Rome and Floyd County,” RFPRD Director Kevin Cowling says. “I can’t wait to see the amazing costumes and the fast times our local heroes turn in again this year.”

A fun, fast course awaits this year’s group of heroes. The event also offers a way to help participants give back to a local charity in the Harbin Hero Challenge.

During online registration and race-day registration, registrants can select one of five charities to support, earning that charity points in the Hero Challenge.

The five charities are: Rome Floyd YMCA, Summit Quest, Floyd County CASA, The Sweet Cocoon and Living Proof Recovery

Along with points from registrations, winners of the pre-race costume contest categories also earn points for a charity.

The costume categories are:

  • Best hero or villain
  • Best junior hero (age 10 and under)
  • Best league of heroes (two or more heroes)

After the race concludes and the hustling heroes have once again saved the day, awards will be presented to race and age group winners. The charity which tallies the most points will be crowned the Harbin Hero Challenge winner and earn a $1,000 donation.

“I enjoyed getting to see all the costumed runners and walkers at last year’s race, and I can’t wait to see how this year’s participants dress up for the event,” Harbin Clinic CEO Kenna Stock says. “I think this event serves as a great way to get the whole family outside and enjoying exercise.”
