As October dawns, thoughts of cooler days, nice strolls along the river and helping fight the zombie horde in Downtown Rome spring to mind. With the seasonal change comes one of Rome’s premier events, the Harbin Clinic Zombie-thon and Apocalyptic Block Party.
The events take place on October 24 and online registration for the Zombie-thon, a 5K run or two-mile walk, continues until October 22.
The race features a traditional 5K and a truly terrifying, zombie-filled 5K. The zombie-filled event includes runners with flag belts attempting to cover the 3.1-mile course while dodging the walking dead and attempting to reach the finish line with as many flags remaining as possible.
The cost for either race is $30 until October 22 and $35 on race day. People can register online at http://rfpra.com/zombie_registration.html.
Registering to be a zombie or a member of the elite Harbin Clinic Outbreak Response Team is free.
Packet pick-up is October 23 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Harbin Clinic Vitality Center. Race-day registration begins at 3:30 p.m. with the non-zombie 5K set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and the zombie-filled event starting 10 minutes after at 5:40.
Participants are encouraged to get to the race early to take part in costume contests and revel in all of the zombie goodness.
After vanquishing the undead, runners and the newly recovered zombies will celebrate their triumph over the walking dead at the Harbin Clinic Apocalyptic Block Party. The party will be on Broad Street and features the Infinity Shoe Band.
