Harbin Clinic Cardiology Cartersville remains on the cutting edge of medicine and technology to assure patients in Cartersville, Acworth, Bartow County and surrounding areas get the best heart health care possible without the need to travel to Atlanta.
Harbin Clinic Cardiology’s Cartersville team includes three cardiologists, Dr. Maxwell Prempeh, Dr. Ankit Patel and Dr. Henaro Sabino, who are here to serve the Cartersville and Bartow community. They are assisted by physician’s assistant William Loong and nurse practitioner Mina Opoku-Mensah.
Along with top-notch cardiovascular care Harbin Clinic’s Cartersville Cardiology Team is leading the way through five key procedures:
- Heart Stent Procedures
- Heart catheterization through the wrist or groin
- Cardiac MRI
- PFO Closures (closing holes in the heart)
“We want the Bartow County and Cartersville community to know that we are delivering the best cardiac care, by offering these programs locally with the best specialists around” Cartersville Cardiologist Dr. Maxwell Prempeh says.
Dr. Prempeh performed Cartersville Medical Center’s first percutaneous PFO closure in October. The procedure is used to treat patients with patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defect. Both conditions consist of holes in the heart located in the atrial septal wall and are typically congenital but often have symptoms that don’t occur until adulthood.
Dr. Prempeh used a closure device placed on a catheter to seal the hole.
Cartersville Medical Center was the second facility in Georgia to offer this procedure.
Radial Access Catheterization
Harbin Clinic’s Cartersville cardiologists offer radial access catheterization, which is a new, innovative way of performing heart catheterization. The procedure goes through the radial artery in the wrist, compared to the current convention of going through the femoral artery in the groin. The radial access procedure has been proven to reduce bleeding, and discomfort in patients undergoing heart catheterization.
Radial access is also more comfortable than femoral catheterization. Patients are usually able to get up and go immediately after the procedure, versus lying down for two to six hours after the traditional femoral artery catheterization. Nationally, fewer than 10 percent of cardiologists perform radial catheterization, but the Cartersville Cardiology Team perform the majority of their catheterizations with the radial procedure.
Harbin Clinic Cardiology Cartersville teamed up with Cartersville Medical Center in 2011 to offer a coronary angioplasty and stent program. Since its inception, the program has grown tremendously and earned numerous quality and safety awards for providing high quality and rapid care for patients suffering from massive heart attacks and coronary angina.
This year, Harbin Clinic Cardiology Cartersville is celebrating the second anniversary of their pacemaker program started by Dr. Ankit Patel. Patients in Cartersville don’t have to travel to Atlanta to have a pacemaker procedure. Harbin Clinic cardiologists expect to see this program steadily grow and bring about more cardiac innovations to the community.
“It’s been a rewarding journey to see this program come to fruition and succeed as it has,” Cartersville Cardiologist Dr. Ankit Patel says. “We want to continue to ensure local patients have the best possible heart care.”
The Cardiac MRI procedure provides an accurate diagnosis of the heart structure and function without any exposure to radiation. Harbin Clinic cardiologists are among the few cardiologists in Georgia who have the expertise and qualifications to interpret cardiac MRI imaging modality.
