Caroline Yaphockun, M.D., is the 2010 recipient of Floyd Medical Center’s Community Faculty of the Year Award.
The award is given annually at the Floyd Family Medicine Residency Graduation and Recognition Ceremony to the physician in the community who has demonstrated excellence through their commitment to family medicine and teaching resident physicians.
The Floyd Family Medicine Residency Program prepares its resident physicians for successful family medicine careers through mentoring relationships with practicing physicians. As a part of this program, Dr. Yaphockun has positively impacted many of her residents’ lives in a variety of ways.
Graduating Floyd resident Margret Thorhallsdottir, M.D., presented the award on behalf of the Floyd Family Medicine residents. She said residents always enjoyed inpatient pediatrics rotation with Dr. Yaphockun because of her kind disposition and positive attitude.
Before becoming a doctor, Dr. Yaphockun aspired to be a teacher. She said she is “fulfilling a dream” she’s always had through teaching the residents and will continue to do so.
“It’s a very great honor to receive the award,” she said, “and we do our best to teach residents as much as we can.”
Dr. Yaphockun received her medical doctorate degree from Cebu Institute of Medicine in Cebu City, Philippines and completed residency at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
