Don’t Skip a Beat: 5-Star Heart Care Close to Home

Having access to local, 5-start heart care means you don’t have to skip a beat when it comes to getting the care you deserve so you can get back to your routine.
February is National Heart Month, and with over 40 cardiovascular providers utilizing over 450 years of experience, Harbin Clinic’s robust and comprehensive heart health programs are available throughout 13 counties of Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama. When necessary, our providers are prepared to serve patients at four regional hospitals in Floyd, Bartow and Gordon counties.

Harbin Clinic has a history of caring completely. In the 1980s, Harbin Clinic established the area’s first comprehensive cardiovascular program and our heart-focused physicians and their teams continue to invest in improving our region’s heart health.
“Heart disease and symptoms of heart attack can go unnoticed if proper steps aren’t taken,” says Harbin Clinic Cardiologist Charles Baggett. “Being aware of your family history can help our heart health care team assess your risks of heart disease and stroke to reduce your chances of having a heart emergency.”
Heart disease and heart-related illnesses are the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the CDC, approximately 659,000 people in the U.S. die from cardiovascular diseases each year.
“Harbin Clinic wants you and your entire family to have a healthy heart and vascular system now and for years to come,” Harbin Clinic Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ed McBride says. “Our Harbin Clinic providers are experts at heart health care and are ready to serve you at a variety of convenient locations across Northwest Georgia.”
Harbin Clinic offers heart and vascular services in the following areas:

CARDIOLOGY
Harbin Clinic’s cardiologists and Advanced Practice Providers specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases of the heart, blood vessels, and circulatory system through medical management and multiple diagnostic modalities, including echocardiograms, nuclear stress testing, coronary interventions, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Some of the more common diseases treated by cardiologists include coronary artery disease, heart rhythm problems and heart failure.
CARDIO-ONCOLOGY
Harbin Clinic’s Cardio-Oncology program works alongside medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and other specialties to coordinate the most appropriate treatment plan that takes your heart health into account. Dr. Charlie Baggett discusses cancer and heart disease treatment options comprehensively with patients, regularly monitors and treats any heart complications that may arise during treatments, and provides lifestyle coaching for individuals after cancer therapy.
PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY
Harbin Clinic’s pediatric cardiologists, Dr. Joshua Donner and Dr. Henaro Sabino, treat childhood and adolescent heart disease while ensuring children, from infants to young adults, have healthy hearts.
ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY
Harbin Clinic electrophysiologist Dr. Robert Styperek specializes in diagnosing and treating heart arrhythmias or problems related to the heart’s electrical system.
VASCULAR SURGERY
Harbin Clinic’s vascular surgeons provide comprehensive services for all types of peripheral vascular disorders, including catheter-based intervention as well as traditional surgical treatment for aneurysms and arterial disease.
VASCULAR LAB
Harbin Clinic vascular diagnostic labs provide a broad range of non-invasive vascular diagnostic services, utilizing ultrasound imaging and physiologic testing to evaluate blood flow and locate areas of vascular disease.
VASCULAR MEDICINE
Harbin Clinic is home to Dr. Billy Chacko, the first vascular medicine specialist in Georgia. He offers comprehensive care for diseases of the vascular system and focuses on the non-invasive diagnosis and treatment of all problems involving the circulatory system outside of the heart.

VEIN CENTER
Harbin Clinic’s Vein Center is the only vein center in Georgia accredited as a surgery center and is prestigiously recognized as a Center of Excellence. Staffed with six board-certified vascular surgeons and Georgia’s only board-certified vascular medicine specialist, the experts at the Vein Center approach venous disease holistically.
“We perform surgical interventions for varicose veins, of course, but most importantly, we seek the root of the symptoms. Is there a history of blood clots, heart disease, or genetic factors that puts them at risk? We address that,” says Vascular Surgeon John Kirkland.
Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama residents don’t have to travel far to get world-class heart and vascular care. Harbin Clinic offers cardiology care in Rome, Cartersville, Calhoun, and Centre, Alabama, and vascular care in both Rome and Cartersville.
